Emmanuel Episcopal Church
We're a Family in Christ Jesus
Outreach
Emmanuel Episcopal Church has carried on the tradition of the Church since its inception and those of its Jewish roots. That is to care for the poor, sick, elderly, widows and orphans. Many monastic orders were founded to carry out these special projects.

In the 1970s, when we were a mission and dependent on others, we took a leap in faith to give ten percent of our income on the premise that we could not out-give the Lord. Now as a self-sufficient church we have seen the Lord’s reward for our faith by giving us even larger amounts for outreach endeavors.

We have used these gifts to support the local community, the State of West Virginia, our nation, and global projects, such as sponsoring medical missionaries and we are presently supporting the education of a child in Uganda. We have supported many local charities, schools, and community organizations, as well as individuals in need.  Members of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Outreach Committee also serve on the Board of Directors of Helping Hands, and some volunteer their time and effort to the Keyser Food Pantry.

In addition to our active, hands-on ministries, Emmanuel Episcopal Church also donates the use of its facilities to groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, the Girl Scouts of America, and Little League sports teams.

It is an awesome responsibility being on this Committee, attempting to be wise stewards of God’s treasures. May He continue to bless us so that we may bless others.

We are a ONE Episcopalian Congregation

The vestry approved Emmanuel becoming a ONE Episcopalian congregation in support of the Global Call to End Poverty, the Make Poverty History campaign, the ONE campaign, and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). At the 74th General Convention in June, the Episcopal Church set the MDGs as a mission priority for the Episcopal Church. In 2000, 191 nations—including the United States—agreed on a plan to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015. They identified eight goals:

1.  Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

2.  Achieve universal primary education for children.

3.  Promote gender equality and empower women.

4.  Reduce child mortality.

5.  Improve maternal health.

6.  Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

7.  Ensure environmental sustainability.

8.  Create a global partnership for development.
